Highlights from the ABA TECHSHOW
We had a great time at the ABA TECHSHOW. As first time exhibitors, we learned a lot at the event. In the hopes that it will help future exhibitors, here are some of our highlights!
There Are Opportunities for Collaboration
Mid-way through our second day at the TECHSHOW, our Marketing and Strategy Director joked “I think I’ve been sold to as much as I’ve sold.”
That’s definitely the name of the game at these events. Not only are exhibitors promoting their product to potential clientele, they're fishing for new opportunities for integration, invigoration, and collaboration with other exhibitors.
There were at least three occasions in which we were privileged to speak with other legal technology providers about collaborating together to expand our business and their services.
These are amazing, unexpected leads that could bring a lot to SimpleLaw and its clients down the road.
The nature of the legal tech industry is that some providers offer standalone solutions for invoicing, timekeeping, and document storage, to name a few. Others offer full platforms that are themselves integrated with other solutions (like those standalone ones). It’s interesting to see the wide variety of providers, and it left us thinking about why one attorney may select an à la carte approach to legal tech rather than a single-platform one. But apparently that discussion has existed for quite some time… and the pendulum seems to be swinging.
Our goal is to design and even integrate our platform with the most essential, time-saving, and intuitive features that attorneys need to efficiently practice law. And if those opportunities to enhance our product come from our neighbors, rather than through in-house efforts, then that’s worth looking into. It’s about the end result.
Magic is a Must
We’re definitely talking about the magician.
We hired Danny Orleans, a world-renowned magician, to help us out at the TECHSHOW. His bravado, keen eye, quick wit, sleight of hand, and skill at smoothly and cheekily incorporating SimpleLaw’s sales pitch into his magic tricks was instrumental to helping us get into our groove at the TECHSHOW.
But we’re also not talking about the magician.
We’re talking about that same boldness and affability, though. The chance to get to know someone as more than a potential customer that Danny brought to the booth inspired us! We listened more than we spoke, and heard some great ideas from potential users. We really liked the “Wow, you do that?” moments. It assures us we're doing something great.
We also simply enjoyed conversations with people about legal technology and the legal industry, and we had great neighbors in AppToto. See you guys next year!
Next Year, We’re Stepping Up Our Booth Game
We loved our corner booth at the TECHSHOW. But we saw some impressive booths there as well.
Some had plush sitting areas and Mac book tech stations to engage conference attendees with demos and trials. Others overlaid the floor with hardwood flooring or cozy, fuzzy carpeting. (Perhaps to have conference attendees literally “step” into a new experience?)
And while our simple 10-by-10 logo display, demo table, and magician worked wonders at the TECHSHOW, we’ve taken notes and have started brainstorming.
It Isn’t Just About Tech
That’s a wrap for us at this year’s ABA TECHSHOW. It was great meeting all of you. We are excited to continue to build our awareness, listen to our users and potential users, and deliver software and services that are truly set apart. It’s about tech, sure, but it’s also about people. And we are thrilled about that point of difference!
